The Selection Process

Once all applications have been received and screened, applicant interview times will be arranged for those applicants who meet the criteria. Unexpected situations and/or emergencies are subject to the approval of the First Ladies Youth Leadership Board of Directors. There are several steps to the selection process:

Step 1: Application Window Opens

The First Ladies Youth Leadership application is the first step in leadership training. Completed applications should be submitted to First Ladies Youth Leadership by the specified August deadline date. The $25 non-refundable registration fee should accompany the completed application. Incomplete applications are viewed as though the student has not applied. Hence, the applicant will not receive an invitation to the Interview Day. Once an applicant has completed the application, she will receive a confirmation call or letter via mail or email.

Step 2: Parent Orientation

During the first week of August, families are invited to attend an evening parent informational meeting sharing an overview of the upcoming year’s leadership development program planned for each young lady participating in First Ladies Youth Leadership.

Step 3: Community Service

During the Application Window, applicants are to take part in a community service project, or a service project designated by First Ladies Youth Leadership. Service projects must be completed in advance of the First Ladies Youth Leadership Interview Day.

Step 4: The Interview Day

Applicants who meet the initial criteria will be invited to the Interview Day which may be held at several different venues throughout metro-Atlanta. The interview process is an instrumental step in leadership training. It is also a very important tool for a female student to learn how to become confident when being interviewed for a special opportunity. It is a key to unlocking college and career readiness. The First Ladies Youth Leadership Interview Panel is looking for evidence of genuine interest, ZEAL for college, respect for others, sisterhood and HUNGER for leadership while acquainting one’s self with our community standards.

Step 5: Home Visits and Registration

All successful students will be visited and/or registered at their homes at the end of the process.
